Protecting LGBT Couples
Fair Wisconsin is most recognized for our work on protecting same-sex couples. Whether it was the massive campaign we built to fight the 2006 constitutional amendment or the domestic partnership victory in 2009, the cornerstone of our organization has been ensuring that caring and committed couples, regardless of sexual orientation, have the legal protections necessary to care for each other. Gay or straight, all couples should be able to visit each other in the hospital, or take leave from work to care for a sick couple.
Although our work since 2006 has expanded to include protecting LGBT families and the transgender community and building inclusive workplaces, repeal of our amendment banning marriage equality and civil unions, as well as achieving full marriage equality remains one of the key components to our path toward full equality.
