2015 Madison Leadership Awards Community Advocate of the Year: Vered Meltzer

MSN LA 2015 Meltzer

Each year in Madison, Fair Wisconsin gathers members of the LGBT community, allies, activists and policy makers to recognize those who have made significant contributions to the advancement of LGBT equality in Wisconsin.

The 2015 Madison Leadership Awards Community Advocate of the Year is Vered Meltzer.

Vered Meltzer was elected to Appleton Common Council in 2014, and is the first openly trans* elected official in the state of Wisconsin. At the start of Vered’s first term, the Council adopted Appleton’s comprehensive non-discrimination ordinance, which includes protections against gender identity and expression discrimination in housing, employment and public accommodations. Vered has presented at the Wisconsin LGBT Leadership Conference in Milwaukee, as well as the Student Democrats Conference in Green Bay. In addition to serving on the Appleton Common Council, Vered works with the Fox River Environmental Education Alliance, in Appleton.

The Fair Wisconsin Madison Leadership Awards Brunch is one of our annual signature events supporting Fair Wisconsin Education Fund. Join Fair Wisconsin Education Fund as we honor leaders and activists who stand up for fairness and advance equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Wisconsinites.
