Passing statewide legislation is dependent on our ability to build capacity for marriage equality and expansion of our statewide nondiscrimination laws to protect transgender Wisconsinites in local communities across Wisconsin.
Leveraging Grassroots Community Organizing.
Since 2010, we have been engaged in grassroots work to defeat anti-fairness ordinances and pass domestic partner benefits, fully inclusive nondiscrimination ordinances, and other pro-fairness policies in every corner of Wisconsin.
Some of the communities we’ve worked in include: Kenosha, Racine, Milwaukee, Manitowoc, Green Bay, Appleton, Fond du Lac, Stevens Point, Washburn, La Pointe, Ashland, Eau Claire, La Crosse, Janesville, and Beloit.
Delivering tangible gains that positively impact the lives of LGBT people and their families.
Together with local leaders, we’ve been proud to successfully support the passage of domestic partner benefits in Appleton, Racine, Manitowoc, Eau Claire, Stevens Point, La Pointe, Janesville, Beloit, La Crosse, Milwaukee County, Outagamie County, Rock County, and many others.
In 2013, we supported an effort in Appleton to update their fair housing ordinance to make Appleton the third city in Wisconsin to prohibit housing discrimination on the basis of gender identity and expression.
In 2014, we supported Appleton in their efforts to become the third city in Wisconsin to create fully inclusive nondiscrimination ordinances to prohibit discrimination in employment and public accommodations. We also worked closely with county leadership in Milwaukee County to add gender identity and expression to numerous county policies to ensure equal opportunity in contracting, employment, and promotional opportunity and equal access to public services.
Transforming our state.
City by city, county by county, we are on the ground having the transformative conversations that are advancing LGBT equality. We work with elected officials, administrators, staff, and pro-fairness advocates to share the stories of LGBT people and how discrimination and unfair employment practices negatively impacts our families. We work with progressives, conservatives, moderates and people from all political affiliations to make these victories a reality.
